My copper metal work is individually hand cut, hammered and formed using ancient techniques of annealing and forging. “Annealing” is heating the metal to a pre-melting stage and allowing it to cool, which makes it softer and more pliable. This annealing might be done multiple times depending on the complexity of shape. “Forging” is using a variety of shaped hammers in conjunction with an anvil to form metal into its initial shape. Shaping by hand achieves the final form before patina application. The piece is then buffed bringing to the surface the many colors hidden inside the metal.
My mermaids are individually hand cut from sheets of copper. Embellishments of shells, rare stones and other copper shapes are then soldered together creating unique one of a kind pieces. All Mermaids are then finished with Patina colors and clear coated.
